Between Monday, October 16 and Saturday, October 28, Victor Matara and his companions embarked on an exhilarating adventure: a journey from Nairobi to Cape Town.
During their travels, Matara was active on multiple online platforms, sharing stories of their adventures and expressing special excitement about exploring the various African countries visited. Their journey coincided with the Springboks winning the Rugby World Cup, which culminated in an unforgettable celebration with local South Africans at Rhapsody's-Sunnyside. Embarking on an approximate 4,063-kilometre journey from Nairobi, the explorers entered Tanzania through the Namanga border. They spent around five days exploring Tanzania, making stops to admire the various cities and tourist attractions along the way.
Apart from their passports, the team had to produce several documents like a car log book, yellow fever vaccination cards, and COMESA yellow cards, as well as meet varied requirements unique to each country they visited. Zambia was the next stop after leaving Tanzania, where the team spent a few days taking part in thrilling experiences along the journey. As the team navigated through every nation trying to stay within budget, they became prudent to the various charges Kenyans would likely face during travels. Fortunately, they also encountered fellow Kenyans working abroad, particularly truck drivers.
While travelling through Zambia, Matara and his friends were stopped by traffic officials for driving in a dangerous lane. Despite serving a four-day sentence, the group pushed on to enjoy brief but scenic stints in Zimbabwe and Botswana. Their travels offered breathtaking sights such as Tanzania's stunning Kawetire Rift Valley View Point, Victoria Falls of Zimbabwe, and the art collection at Zambia's Lusaka National Museum. Matara's journey is just one of many long-distance journeys undertaken by Kenyans, using unconventional methods such as bicycles and motorbikes.
