When is God is for you, nothing can come against you, so goes a famous saying, and for “Githeri Man”, who has become famous after being pictured taking githeri while lining up to vote in the August 8th polls, the saying seems relevant.
After his photo going viral on social media , Martin Kamotho status has changed from another Nairobi County casual laborer to a celebrity with over 10,000 Instagram followers and a few endorsements from different corporate entities, to an extent that he has been forced to hire a manager and an attorney to represent him in major corporate deals staring at him.
Companies are fighting up to work with him and bank from all the publicity he has accrued in a span of a week.
Veteran showbiz promoter Chris Kirwa is Kamotho's de facto talent agent, with Bonfire Adventures, UserName, Big Square Kenya, designer NaneuLeshan, Safaricom and Maisha Flour Meals as some of the companies looking to have him feature in their advertising and marketing plans.
Githeri man says; “I thank God for all who have supported me and all those who are still coming out to support me. I still don’t understand what all this celebrity thing is all about, but my life has truly changed.”
“All the cheques are written in his name and they are all going to his personal account. I have made a career out of giving people a platform to achieve their dreams; it’s what gets me out of bed every morning,” his Nanager Kirwa said.

Ladies and Gentlemen! All Kenyans! Who Bewitched, Fooled, and Even Cursed some of you? Doesn't Kenya have More Needy and More Desperately Wanting people than this so-called "Githeri Man"? Why is Too Much Time and Goods wasted on this man "Githeri Man" INSTEAD of the More Naturally or Economically Oppressed/Suppressed Kenyans? How about the Old and Sandry that VOTED but Couldn't Even Afford a Bottle of Water to Drink (leave alone Githefi) while standing on line? Why not give Time and Money to the Sick, Old, and DISABLED (who defied all to vote) instead of Wasting Time, Money and Curiousity on an ABLE man "Githeri Man"? What not Also Spend this Fortune on the Sick, the Poor & Needy (who can't even afford Githeri), the Disabled, the Widows and the Orphans who COULDN'T AFFORD (a Spoonful) of GITHERI on the Material Day 8/8/17? Ama ni kwa Ajili Kenya IMEROGWA, KUPUMBAZWA, na KULANIWA?
Ati mimi nitakula Githeri na plastic bag!
Go slowly Githeri man. You fame might go down as quickly as it came.
Good luck make hay while the sun shines. They say life begins at 40 and you are among the winners of this election.Sign those endorsement deals and save for a rainy day. When the fame eventually dies as it surely will you will have something to fall back on.Be an example of where social media and a simple photo can take you.Hey most people wish they could be you.
It's his luck. Let him reap. God works in his own ways that we can never understand. To God be the Glory. The githeri man might have prayed for a miracle and that's how God might have answered his prayers
He should pray more, and hope that his new found fame is not a curse in disguise. For crooks are abound. Smart move to hire a lawyer.I hope that its a contingency lawyer ...
40 years ago githeri man would not have attracted any attention anywhere in Kenya.Even he himself coming from the old school,he is surprised and confused with all these celebrity craze.
Why are we making this a big thing. The man was eating githeri from his plastic bag,so what?
But if we are so in awe about it and the fellow is cashing in on it,well good for him.
We are behaving worse than the west that I thought was celebrity-crazy.Our rush to a celebrity has in the past ashamed us.I am sure some of you remember how an ethiopian was mistaken for general mathenge(a mau mau hero),and he played the role to he hilt.Better put it,he milked the attention to the fullest. With all the red carpet rolling, and cameras flashing,he couldnt have been happier...
Let's be careful with whom we "coronate"as a celebrity before we water down its usage.
