Kenya Chief Justice David Maraga has made it to the list of 2017 top 100 most influential individuals in Africa released on Wednesday.
Maraga entered the list compiled by New African Magazine alongside other Kenyans including Ijara MP Sophia Noor, Centum CEO James Mworia and Lawyer PLO Lumumba. Med in Africa founder Yvonne Mburu, Arimus Media Limited boss Julie Gichuru, nutritionist Ruth Oniang’o and athletes Faith Kipyegon and Helen Obiri are also in the list.
Ghana’s Nana Akufo-Addo, Rwanda’s Paul Kagame and President Alpha Conde of Guinea are the only three heads of states in the list. Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo also featured in the Politics and Public Service category.
Nigeria has the highest number of individuals in the list, closely followed by South Africa, which has 14. Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote (Nigeria), businessman Mohammed Dewji (Tanzania) were named once more in the Business and Finance category, alongside newcomers Isabel dos Santos and Jean-Claude Bastos de Morais, both from Angola.
New African Magazine lists 100 Most Influential Africans annually and samples individuals from all sectors including business, politics, music, sports and other industries.
“What our readers will find pleasing, is the almost bewildering diversity of this list – in terms of race, ethnic and national diversity. This list, if nothing else, displays the beauty and power of the diversity that makes the Africa we all love,” says Omar Ben Yedder – Group Publisher and Managing Director of IC Publications.
Maraga, alongside three other Supreme Court Judges made a landmark ruling that nullified the first presidential election in Africa and only the fourth in the world.

While we are proud that he's one of us, on the other hand, little was known of him before he nullified the August 8, elections. What followed after that made him more important than Uhuru and Raila. Might he be the only one who made it to Canaan? Might he also be partly responsible of the chaos and political uncertainty that has rocked Kenya since August 8?
Surely this must have been compiled before he threw out the petition filed by the paupers as if only the rich deserve justice in Kenya.Just another person who put his needs before others .
