The government has announced a crackdown on foreigners holding illegal work permits and passports following the end of fresh registration and verification exercise launched two months ago.
Immigration Principal Secretary (PS) Gordon Kihalangwa said at least 8,000 foreign citizens risk being deported for holding illegal documents.
The official said 26,552 foreigners presented themselves to the Department of Immigration Services at Nyayo House in Nairobi for the vetting process by the Saturday deadline.
Kihalangwa said the government will be seeking to deport those living and working in the country illegally.
“We will not give foreigners jobs that can be done by locals. It’s an offence for employers to hire foreigners with illegal work permits, we must deport them,” he said at Kenya School of Government in Nairobi on Monday.
In May, the Interior ministry announced a 60-day operation to identify and register foreign workers afresh in a move aimed at kicking out those in the country illegally.
“About 26,552 foreigners walked to Nyayo House to confirm their details during the verification exercise which came to a close last Saturday. There is a variation (in numbers) from what we have in the database,” said Kihalangwa.

Unfortunately not all 8,000 will be kicked out.If most ,or just about all obtained documents through fraudulent means and these means are still in place. Most will go back and do same bribing as before, except now the stakes are high which means more to dish out.Did we not read the other day that immigration department is still very corrupt bilking thousands from fellow Kenyans. My suggestion is that foreigners who cooperate fully with non corrupt officials to explain how they got false papers and who gave them should get some kind of reprieve and have the document manufacturers punished.
Mheshimiwa Ndugu Kiharaangwa:
Ee, ndiyo wajibu wetu
Kenya istahili heshima
Tuungane mikono
Pamoja kazini
Kila siku tuwe na shukrani
Ndugu Imara I agree with you that some of the illegals who are in other words very productive and that if they are deported wananchi who rely on their services would suffer let them stay. For example if one of them has a business that employs 20 kenyans.Deport the crooks and those who dojobs many Kenyans can do
Kick them out...the earlier the better.. These West Africans and Asian uninvited guests are like ticks... they suck the life out of any country they set foot to.
