Permanent Resident Card

The Biden administration is contemplating a potential shift in immigration policy that could grant legal permanent residency, commonly known as green cards, to undocumented immigrants who have resided in the United States for at least a decade.
This proposed initiative aims to address the situation faced by long-term undocumented residents and their families who live under the constant threat of deportation. To qualify for a green card under this plan, undocumented immigrants must demonstrate that they have continuously resided within the United States for a minimum of ten years. Additionally, they would be required to provide evidence that their removal from the country would result in significant hardship and negative consequences for their immediate family members who possess legal residency or citizenship in the United States.
Preserving family unity is a paramount concern for the Biden administration, and this proposed policy change aligns with the broader objectives of their immigration agenda. The administration seeks to prevent the separation of families by considering the potential challenges and difficulties that the deportation of undocumented individuals could impose on their relatives who are lawful residents. If implemented, this green card initiative would offer a pathway to legal status for undocumented immigrants who meet the eligibility criteria, alleviating their fears of expulsion and providing relief to their family members who may face hardships if they were compelled to leave the country.
The proposal remains in the preliminary stages of discussion and development within the Biden administration. Key stakeholders including legislators, advocacy groups, and immigration experts are expected to engage in ongoing deliberations to shape the final details of the plan and address any potential obstacles or concerns that may arise. In a concerted effort to advocate for administrative relief for undocumented immigrants, a group of 17 Senate Democrats, led by US Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, and Border Safety, and U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, have addressed a letter to the Biden Administration.
The senators have put forth suggestions for executive actions that would streamline the pathways to legal status for undocumented individuals and those protected under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, who currently reside in the United States. In their letter, they implore the administration to "utilize all possible means to streamline the pathways to legal status for undocumented immigrants. This will provide reassurance to American businesses, communities, and families who depend on them." The senators further emphasize the potential economic and social consequences of mass deportation, stating, "If all these individuals were to be deported, as threatened by former President Donald Trump if he were to be reelected, it would have a devastating impact on the American economy and tear apart American families."
Conversely, they argue that creating streamlined pathways for undocumented immigrants without criminal records and with strong ties to the United States to obtain parole or legal immigration status would bring stability to their families, ensure tax contributions, and require regular check-ins with the U.S. government. Among the specific proposals outlined in the letter are efforts to allow American citizens' spouses to work while their green card applications are being processed, simplifying the process for DACA recipients to switch to a nonimmigrant status, and updating the rules for cancellation of removal to keep family caregivers together – a recommendation supported by a group of Senators last year.
The senators underscore the significant contributions of undocumented immigrants to the US economy, stating that in 2019 alone, they contributed approximately $9.7 billion in federal and state taxes and over $11 billion in social security contributions. Moreover, they highlight the impact on families, with over 1.1 million US citizens married to undocumented immigrants and around 4.9 million US citizen children having at least one undocumented parent.
In addition to Padilla and Durbin, the letter is endorsed by a bipartisan group of Senators, including Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Laphonza Butler (D-Calif.), Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), John Fetterman (D-Pa.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).

I thought it was April’s Fools Day, but again I looked at my calendar 📅 and I was a week off!!! It’s a good dream, that is, an election year dream, if Biden was a dictator with no Congress on the way!!! Those wild dreams you dream about once in a while!!!
Why is it that when presidantial elections are around the corner everybody want to resolve the immagation issue? To get everyone in that situation to vote for them not to help out the people once they are elected. Where was the help when asked for it for my husband who had been here 22 years without leaving the country was a great worker, paid taxes, had no criminal record and was trying to do the right thing of getting a green card? So the day he would go to his visa interview they tell him he can't come back for 10 years.
I am so sorry that happened to your family. It definitely shouldn't have happened. I whole heartedly believe if Biden is going to help anybody it should be the people who already have an interest and loyalty to the United States, not the newcomers as he calls them. You all deserve it. This is all about the votes. Biden won't do that because the people who already live here have seen what he's done to destroy this great country and won't vote for him. Again, it's all about the votes. Again, I apologize for our non-empathetic, corrupt government. They have taken from all the people so long that they forgot they work for us. We The People! We must all unite together.
I remember the good old days instead of spending $150 billion dollars a year feeding all these illegals it was just cheaper to deport them you start deporting a bunch of these people and they'll stop paying $8,000 to get here cuz it won't be economically feasible for him
Biden should help senior citizens with real programs helping with leaking roofs so many can't afford to put new roofs when there leaking people can't make it with food or let alone roofs !! There is different programs but there all fake no help !!!
He has been president for 4 years
, hasn't done shit for the people in this country but used our hard working taxes to help other countries fight in war, there are LEGAL immigrants who worked there asses off for the past 20 years to become a hard working citizen, in the past 4 years this guy from Pakistan provided all the documents he needed just to get his wife to come here as a legal citizen and everything he was asked to do and provided he gets ignored yet all of a sudden it's election time and he is bringing illegal immigrants here putting them up in hotels for free and shelters, handing them jobs and cards to become citizens just because in reality he just want to win votes! Where was this 4 years ago when the people who worked there asses off and had to go through hell to become a legal citizen and just because he wanted his wife here with him so he doesn't have to take care of 2 homes and pay over $1,000 place tickets back and fourth it was a big issue for him then? I'm sorry but biden does not have my vote, he says all these promises but never follows through with them he just wants to win for another r years just to do NOTHING FOR THIS COUNTRY I hope someday American wakes up and sees the real joe biden. A JOKE!!!
We have millions of American homeless people living on the streets in the cold and a majority of them is because renting an apartment these days have gone from $2500-$3000 a month... minimum wage isn't even close to that. Minimum wage hasn't gone up much but to rent an apartment sure has. But yet biden is sending illegal immigrants here and putting them in free hotels and shelters.. what about the americans?? You know the country where u decided to run for president for??? I think biden is confused with what country he is running for and needs to get his senile ass off of the election and let somebody who is sane and actually cares about this country because I know one thing for sure is if he ends up winning this election our country is doomed! And if anybody want to argue with me who supports Joe bidens senile ass I will gladly love to have a discussion. :)
I read the ‘bipartisan’ list but saw no Republicans supporting this initiative.
What most people do not realize is that most of the southern parts of the United States were once Mexico. At the same time by allowing those that have lived here for ten years or more become citizens or get a green card it is not supporting new comers it is supporting those that have a stake in the United States. What is sad is that we are all trying to survive and keep our families safe. Instead of fighting or complaining about the small stuff we should be embracing a nation that was built by immigrants for immigrants.
There is nothing legal about being illegal.
Sorry, I understand the dynamics, but laws are made for a reason.
The West must get it right. They rob other nations, unfair trade, CIA murder of popular leaders, fund NGO to destabilize govts, impose useless Democrats they don't practice, use multi nationals to steal minerals, Agri wealth, wars to resuscitate their economy, atrocities and so on and on.
Now they poor come to their door due to massive poverty enhancing programs from the West. What you plant shall you also reap. Give em vouchers, housing, debit card, green cards and all that is past due to them. Plus black reparations that's way way past due. No such a thing as free labour in the labor department.
I am ignorant. Can someone explain to me how an Undocumented Immigrant can be living and working for 10 years in the USA? And in addition, making contributions to the USA income Tax system and SSI benefit program? Another words I would think one would need to be a legal citizen to work and earn benefits.
I'm apauled at reading this!!!I ,along with my family 2 parents, 2 sisters and our grandma imigrated from London England to USA 45 years ago,my parents did EVERYTHING legal to obtain our permanent residency cards (green cards)Both my parents became citizens, carrying dual citizenship but us daughters did not,to this day we remain British subjects, which means complying with every 10 years we are responsible for paying the fee of $580.00 to renew our green cards.. I am pissed beyond words as we applied in 2021 and fast forward we haven't recieved squat!!!! and now I'm reading that, the WORST PRESIDENT THAT HAS EVER HELD OFFICE, is allowing ALL these illegals green cards!!!(!! This madness HAS to stop!!!!!!!
I think the President is on the right track. The US would seem very ungrateful to turn it's back on immigrants, (although some enter wrongly) who built this country originally. Let us remember that. Also note that many of the original builders are from "shithole countries".A very good effort by the US would be to give more monitored AID to these countries whose citizens are running away for a better life in the US so they'd have no need to want to leave.
Folks, do not believe this is a genuine and sincere proposal. Biden is just being another Ruto and is pandering to the emotions of naturalized citizens hoping to get their voter sympathy. With an presidential elections contender opponent like Donald Trump, he knows that proposal will won't see the light day. Bure kabisa.
