US Embassy in Nairobi Warns Kenyans of Stricter Immigration Enforcement and Permanent Bans

The United States Embassy in Nairobi has issued a stark warning to Kenyan travellers regarding increased enforcement of US immigration laws. 

The statement, released on Friday, April 11, by Chargé d’Affaires Marc Dillard, highlights the severe penalties facing those who violate immigration regulations, including permanent bans from the US, criminal charges, and deportation. The embassy's warning comes amid growing concerns over fraudulent practices used by some Kenyans seeking entry into the US. 

These concerns have prompted the Trump administration to intensify measures aimed at protecting national security and ensuring the integrity of the immigration system. Violations of US immigration law, such as illegal entry, false visa applications, unauthorized employment, and visa overstays, carry significant consequences for both individuals and the US. 

Recent data indicates a substantial increase in immigration enforcement efforts. In February 2025, illegal border crossings decreased by 94 percent compared to the previous year. Simultaneously, arrests of undocumented individuals within the US surged by 627 percent during the same period. 

The Trump administration has stated its commitment to further increasing these enforcement actions. The warning also extends to Kenyans currently residing in the US who may be considering overstaying their visas. The embassy cautions that such actions could result in permanent bans and potential jail time, urging compliance with legal processes for travel and residence.

In addition, the US government has introduced a self-deportation application, allowing undocumented immigrants to voluntarily register and return to their home countries. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also announced new visa restrictions targeting foreign officials who fail to address illegal immigration within their own countries.

The US Embassy in Nairobi emphasizes the importance of lawful travel, urging Kenyans to adhere to immigration regulations to safeguard their families' well-being and future opportunities.
