President Kenyatta has denied he endorsed Peter Kenneth for the Nairobi governor’s seat.
The president, in a statement, said he has not endorsed any candidates and wants Jubilee members to make their own choices of leaders in a free, far and credible nomination process.
“Our attention has been drawn to media reports suggesting that His Excellency the President, in his role as the leader of the Jubilee Party, has indicated support for a candidate in the Nairobi gubernatorial race. These reports are untrue…The President has not endorsed any candidate, believing that Nairobi Jubilee members will make their choice in a free, fair and credible process at the nominations,” read in part a segment signed by Raphael Tuju, Jubilee Party Secretary-General.
The president on Saturday told the people of Gatanga to pray for Peter Kenneth so that he wins in Nairobi. The statement was taken by some as a veiled endorsement of Peter Kenneth. “Pray for this son of yours so that he wins in Nairobi,” the president said at the time, in reference to Peter Kenneth who he also invited to briefly address the crowd.
Peter Kenneth faces Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and former Statrehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru at the Friday Jubilee nominations for Nairobi Governor.
