Machakos Governor and Maendeleo Chap Chap leader Alfred Mutua has said he will make an announcement is two weeks regarding his possible 2022 presidential bid.
Mutua was speaking on Sunday at the African Inland Church (AIC) Kea, Migwani, in Mwingi West constituency. He thanked the over 23,000 leaders from Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Taita Taveta and Kwale counties who endorsed him as the Kamba community spokesman and 2022 presidential candidate at an earlier event.
“I am honoured by the endorsement and want to say that I am driven by the desire to serve the people and not acquire power,” Mutua said.
Mutua urged the Kamba community to reject politicians who have been in power for over 30 years but have no development records to show. He said the community should not be herded like sheep to support a certain coalition by a selfish politician who only cares about himself and his family.
Mutua said although his party is not affiliated to Jubilee, he supports President Uluru’s re-election owing to his development record in the last four years. “He needs a second term to fast track development projects at regional and national levels,” said Mutua.
