The ruling and opposition political factions are in a race against time to craft winning strategies and campaign formulas ahead of the official start of election campaigns on May 28th.
Reports indicate that the National Super Alliance (NASA) has in place an expansive team consisting of technocrats, seasoned politicians and economists to spearhead the selling of their presidential candidate across the 47 counties.
The ruling Jubilee Party on the other hand is believed to have formulated a two-tier co-coordinating presidential campaign engine that will oversee the re-election bid of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
The Standard reports that NASA presidential campaign managers have already been picked and official letters sent to them to begin working immediately. “The principals are doing what they know best as politicians but behind them are expansive teams whose sole mandate is to craft a winning formula and the best campaign strategy that has ever been witnessed in this country,” a source at the campaign secretariat told the Standard on anonymity condition.
NASA Chief Executive Norman Magaya revealed that their aim was to garner as many numbers as possible from across the country. “We have done our maths and we know the numbers we are targeting. We have put in place elaborate mechanisms to achieve our target,” said Malaya.
Kaput arap Kiowa, who represents Mudavadis’s Amani National Coalition in NASA national co-ordinating committee, said “We have agreed that in our campaigns, we are going to focus on issues that affect Kenyans and avoid name-calling as perpetuated by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.”
Aware of the threat posed by the opposition, Jubilee has partitioned the country into stronghold areas - its own and the opposition's - and what they think are swing counties in its re-election strategy. It has identified 17 counties in Central and Rift Valley regions as well as Upper Eastern as its strongholds in its campaign strategy.
Sources revealed that the Jubilee party will be rolling out a giant campaign strategy especially in areas considered as swing in order to marshall the largest portion of the votes, having scooped almost everything in their seventeen stronghold counties it has marked as theirs.
