Leader from western Kenya have warned National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga against imposing leaders on constituents of Western Kenya.
Speaking on Saturday at the burial of Nehemiah Ashiembi, in Lurambi constituency, the leaders told the opposition chief that Western Kenya leaders entrusted him with national leadership, and therefore he should let the people on ground to choose and elect their own leaders without preferential treatment of certain candidates.
“As a senior politician in the Luhya nation, I urge you, Luhya people, to elect Raila Odinga as Kenya’s President on August 8. Uhuru out, Raila in,” Kakamega Senator, Bonny Khalwale told the mourners.
He added: “We have shown respect to Raila Odinga by choosing him the NASA flag bearer. He should be satisfied by that position, and refrain from imposing leaders, such as MCAs, MPs or Governors on the Luhya people. We are telling Raila to leave the Luhya people to elect their own leaders without exercising his influence on the people.”
His sentiments were echoed by other legislators who attended the burial, who jointly attacked the Orange Democratic Movement party leader accusing him of being ‘selfish’ by fronting ODM candidate in the region they said was a Ford Kenya stronghold, which is an affiliate party of the opposition coalition NASA.
Raila Odinga’s party has fielded candidates in almost all elective seats in Kakamega County and other Western counties, including Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya who will be going head to head with Senator Bonny Khalwale of Ford Kenya.
