National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has disowned independent candidates who are backing his bid to occupy the statehouse in August 8 polls, urging voters to reject them.
Speaking in Rarieda Constituency, the former prime minister called on NASA supporters not to vote for independent candidates so that the coalitions can command the majority members in the National Assembly and in the Senate.
“We now want to go battle it out with our opponents and we will move with those flying our flag,” said Raila. “Our uniform is orange (ODM). We also have ANC, Wiper, Ford Kenya and CCM, they are also part of us in NASA,” he added.
Raila’s sentiments were seconded by NASA campaign manager and Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi.
“If we, NASA Co-principals, accepted to support Odinga at the presidential level, even leaders in lower positions should accept defeat and support winners in the concluded party primaries,” said Musalia Mudavadi.
However, NASA presidential running mate, Kalonzo Musyoka did not seem to agree with Raila Odinga. While attending the burial of Kitui senator David Musila’s mother, Kalonzo promised that he will work with those who will be elected, even if they were independent candidates.
“If the people decide it is Charity Ngilu, I will work with her, whether it is Malombe, I will work with him. If they decide it is Musila, I will work with Musila. Even when Musila tendered his resignation to me in form of a letter, I have never replied because I still want him to be the party chairperson,” said Kalonzo.
