National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders clashed on Saturday at a burial in Mumias, Kakamega County where NASA leaders Raila Odinga and Musalia Mudavadi attended.
The burial ceremony of former Mumias lawmaker, Francis Obongita was dominated by a public war of words between two warring political factions in the region, both belonging to the opposition outfit NASA.
NASA presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga, who addressed mourners at the burial, urged them to vote out the Jubilee administration in the August 8 polls, adding that it has failed to tackle corruption and improve the lives of Kenyans.
“The time has come for Kenyans to send Jubilee home for lying about improving their livelihoods in the last five years,” Raila said.
However, drama would unfold later when Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya accused Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale of sanctioning senate investigations against him in an attempt to lock him out of the Kakamega gubernatorial race.
Oparanya, who is the Orange Democratic Deputy Party leader and a close ally of Raila, said he must be in the ballot despite Khalwale’s alleged malicious intentions.
“I want to assure my supporters that I will be on the ballot on August 8. This push by senators to have me barred is a waste of time,” Oparanya said.
When Khalwale rose to speak, he hit out at the Governor, accusing him of riding on Raila Odinga’s name in the race for Kakamega governor, in which they will be facing each other, accusing him of running the county as a market place.
Khalwale warned Raila Odinga to stop meddling in Western Kenya politics and instead focus on winning the presidency, sentiments that caused shouting band commotion in the burial.
Khalwale of Ford Kenya will be facing incumbent Wycliffe Oparanya of Orange Democratic Movement in the race for Kakamega County Governor.
