Somalia-based militia group Al Shabaab on Wednesday night destroyed Safaricom's mast at Fafi center in Garissa county, halting communications in the County. Confirming the incident, Fafi sub-county OCPD John Ogola said that police were pursuing the militants, who are believed to be still in Kenya.
Ogola said that they will be using alternative routes for fear of IEDs that have been used to kill several police officers in the last few days, including 10 on Wednesday in Lamu County.
"For now all I can tell you are that a Safaricom mast was blown up. Everything else being said is a rumor," he said.
Ogola further said that security agents will be going back to the drawing board and retrace their steps to find out what went wrong, as far as the resurgence of the terror group is concerned.
On Wednesday morning, eight people, seven of them police officers, died when their armored vehicle hit a landmine in Baure area in Lamu County, while another one killed two Kenya Defense Force officers in the same area.
The officers were headed to Mukoe from Mungai in Lamu West to refuel the vehicle when the incident occurred at about 9am.
Believe me there seems to be a connection between these terrorists and some political parties in the country. Terror group for hire! Someone somewhere is bankrolling this heinous activity.
