Members of Parliament drawn from the North Eastern region have threatened to purchase guns for their communities to enable them protect themselves against the resurgence of the Somalia based Al-Shabaab militants group.
Addressing the media at parliament buildings on Wednesday, the legislators told that government that the situation was dire amid alarm by residents following a series of attacks by the terror group in the Northern region.
The group of seven lawmakers, led by Fafi Member of Parliament Bare Shill, accused the government of laxity security even as the Al Shabaab continues killing innocent Kenyans.
They said that the government gave priority to the bandit attacks in Pokot and Turkana where a high number of police reservists have been deployed, while giving a deaf year to the people of North Eastern.
MPs Shukran Gure (Garissa woman representative), Mohamed Dahir (Dadaab), Mohamed Shidiye (Lagdera), Ahmed Abbas (Ijara), and Mandera Senator Yusuf Haji were present during the media briefing.
"Why are you not giving us guns? If you don't want to protect us, we will cross over to Somalia and buy guns," the Bare Shill said.
We have bows and arrows etc at home for protection. I see no reason why people of Kenya from a certain region neglected by the government can't protect themselves from this al shabab group. Buy them guns for self protection. Empower the people and the community.
