The Kenyan government on Saturday rubbished allegations of military involvement in elections rigging plot made by opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) on Friday.
Speaking during a media briefing on Saturday, acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and his Defence counterpart Raychelle Omamo described the allegations as “claims from the street”.
“We are at a time when our security agencies are being subjected to rumor mongering and gossip which is unacceptable,” said Dr Matiang’i at a press briefing in Kisumu.
“The government and security agencies do not conduct elections. IEBC does. We have an impartial and competent security agencies,” he added.
The two were responding to sensational claims tabled by Nasa principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday linking Kenya Defence Forces to an elaborate elections rigging scheme in favor of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
KDF later confirmed the authenticity of the documents presented by NASA clarifying they had been quoted out of context, but Omamo denied having seen the documents at all.
“I have not seen the documents. All we are saying is we will not rig elections. KDF will continue to discharge their mandate within the law. KDF has no plans to disenfranchise any citizen,” she said.
Omamo said the opposition was irresponsible by publishing names of soldiers slated to head a planned operations..

All the talk of the military getting involved in rigging an election is plain bullshit. The military is mandated by the constitution to protect us from internal and external crises. In the violence after the 2007 Election the military neglected its duty to protect Kenyans and I am going to quote an article by a Lt-Gen (Rtd) Humphrey Njoroge , Now he is in the list of my heroes. He said this and the article in on the nation for everybody to read
"The plain description of the unrest that engulfed Kenya—which resulted in the deaths of more than 1,000 people and the displacement of hundreds more — was a civil war.
That the military stood by as all this happened was a dereliction of constitutionally mandated duty."
General Njoroge participated is the suppression of the 1982 coup which would otherwise seen our country become one of the failed states plagued by endless civil wars. Thank you General Njoroge for your duty to our country.
Mr Odinga should be held liable, as a leader he should only talk of things he knows/should know to be actual facts instead of assuming, also the press has an obligation to verify the authenticity of documents presented to them, its too close to the elections to have this kind of issues. Is Mr Odinga doing this things so if he loses the election he can say that the election was rigged?. Actions speak louder than words, and I do hope that the wananchi are not and will not be used as ponds in this political game.
