A new opinion poll released by research firm Centre for African Progress indicate that if the elections were held today, President Uhuru Kenyatta would be declared the President in the first round of voting.
Centre of African Progress Chief Executive Officer Abel Onyancha, while releasing the poll said that the new survey shows that President Kenyatta would triumph with 53 percent over his main competitor, National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga who would come second with 42 percent, with 5 percent of voters still undecided.
The survey by CAP was carried out between the July 24th and July 27th, with 45 percent of Kenyans having confidence that President Uhuru Kenyatta can deliver, and 33 percent having faith in former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The poll further showed that 52 percent of respondents have faith in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and believe it will deliver a free, fair and credible election. 45 percent of the respondents expressed lack of trust in the Electoral Commission.
The Centre for African Progress survey interviewed 10,000 registered voters in all the 47 counties in the opinion poll.
Two leading pollsters Infotrak and Ipsos Synovate last week released differing polls showing either of President Uhuru and Raila Odinga leading.
Infotrak poll indicated that opposition chief Raila and President Kenyatta locked in a dead heat race with Raila enjoying a one point statistical advantage with 47 percent popularity. Ipsos Synovate on the other hand projected President Kenyatta would garner 47 percent of the total votes cast against Raila’s 43 percent.

On December 12, 1963, Kenya achieved its independence from Britain. Our total independence from Britain did not mean that we wanted to be colonized by the Gikuyu and the Kalenjin. That is the way it has been for almost 54 years.
Oppression has no gender, color, or ethnic origins. Oppression is oppression. Therefore, it is time that we have another member of the 42 distinct ethnic group elected as the president of Kenya. Raila has promised to be in power when elected for ONLY five years like the late Madiba Mandela of South Africa. It is time that Kenya gets rid of the idea that only two ethic oppressors are fit to rule Kenya. The change will occur peacefully at the ballot box next week.
