The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) on Wednesday announced it has cancelled Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations results of 1,205 candidates over cheating.
Speaking during a press briefing at Mtihani House, KNEC Chairman George Magoha said the students whose results were cancelled came from 9 out of 10 examinations centers where incidents of cheating were reported during the 2017 exams.
Magoha noted that some candidates were nabbed with mobile phones during the exams, while others were found with unauthorized materials in examination rooms.
"It's amazing that in some cases the candidates had written the right answers before cancelling them to write wrong answers they received from teachers who colluded with them," Magoha said.
However, all is not lost for them as they will be allowed to register for this year's exams at centres of their choice.
"...the students can appeal or register again for the KCSE exams this year," Magoha said adding that the deadline of registration is February 28th.
On tutors involved in the malpractices, Magoha said: "We have names (of teachers) we have taken somewhere. The onus is not on us to judge them. TSC will find its own ways to judge them. Our work as KNEC is to give them recommendations."
