Opposition chief Raila Odinga has told United States to stop interfering with Kenyan affairs, stating that the country is not a colony of America.
In an interview with Voice of America at his office in Capitol Hill, Nairobi the National Super Alliance (Nasa) leader accused US ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec of going to bed with Jubilee government, noting that the envoy is not honest in his push for dialogue between ruling and the opposition sides.
Odinga said US and other countries should let Kenyans put off their own fire. "We are happy to have friends work with us but the fire needs to be extinguished by Kenyans themselves. It will be put out after Kenyans realise there is fire, that we have a problem and that we need a solution. Those friends of ours will come after we have helped ourselves," he said.
Asked to comment on the warning by US against using unconstitutional means to capture power, Odinga said America has no power to dictate to Kenyans how to go about their business.
"They are our friends. They can advise us but they cannot force us. Kenya is not a colony of America. We are a free country. We will do as we want. It is not Nasa that has breached the Constitution. It is Jubilee that has created an illegitimate government."
