The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has dismissed reports by a section of local media that opposition chief Raila Odinga is set to be offered a job at the United Nations following his unity pact with President Kenyatta.
The reports claimed that President Kenyatta was lobbying for Odinga to be appointed as a special envoy at the UN, but ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna said the former Prime Minister is not interested in the position.
Sifuna said that Odinga was focused on solving problems facing Kenya and has no time for dealing with issues happening in other countries. “Raila Odinga is not interested in any office. We have a lot to do in our country and we cannot engage in problems facing others,” said Sifuna, while speaking in Kisumu.
Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o of Kisumu asked Kenyans to be patient with Kenyatta-Odinga unity agreement, stating that its fruits will soon be seen.
“That agreement must hold and we want to see it succeed,” said Nyong’o. “When you see me in the company of the party Secretary General, know that all is well and we want to give development a priority,” he added.
