Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba is yet to leave office days after suspension orders were issued to him.
Chiloba was sent on a three-month compulsory leave by the Commission's Chairman Wafula Chebukati following a plenary meeting on Friday.
In a statement, Chebukati said the CEO was sent home to pave way for audit in the procurement department after revelations of irregularities.
"The commissions' plenary meeting held on April 6 received and discussed an audit report on some procurement matters," Chebukati said.
He added: "Subsequently, it was decided through a majority voting to expand audit scope and that the CEO proceeds on compulsory leave for three months."
"It is important to note that in making the decision to carry out a comprehensive audit, the Commission is performing its oversight role to safeguard public resources," he said.
However, NTV reports that independent investigations revealed the Chiloba was still carrying normal duties at his office on Monday and Tuesday, raising fears that he could be defying the suspension orders.
A compulsory leave notice was served to him on Saturday, a decision that has reportedly left the Commission divided.
Sources said that a number of Commissioners including IEBC vice chair Consolata Nkatha Maina were opposed to sending Chiloba home and she allegedly walked out of the meeting held on Friday.
