Kenya Airways’ most senior pilot, Captain Joseph Kinuthia has successfully commandeered the airline's historic maiden nonstop flight to the United States.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (5Y-KZE) flight KQ002 left Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Sunday at 10:55pm East African Time and touched the ground at JFK International Airport in New York at around 6:25am on Monday.
Captain Kinuthia has flown over 25,000 hours and has worked for Kenya Airways for more than four decades now.
The 65-year-old has flown powerful and prominent individuals including retired President Daniel Arap Moi and the late Pope John Paul II.
Kinuthia, who hails from Murang’a, was chosen by the national carrier to fly the historic plane due to his flight experience. He has worked for KQ since 1978.
Joining him is co-pilot Eric Mbugua, assisted by Jobba Musa and Patrick Kipsambu as well as 12 flight attendants.
234 passengers among them a government delegation led by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma and outgoing American ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec boarded the plane that was flagged off by President Kenyatta at JKIA.

@ Guest 1, why does it have to be a Male vs Female.Dont you want the best pilot, the best doctor, the best teacher...etc to serve you.If the selection process is defective, then, that's what we need to change.Even if you have to pick a pilot at random, changes are you will have amale pilot.
We are making strides.Women in Saudi,just started driving cars the other day... with that kind of progress, it will take 300 years for a female saudi pilot. Bravo Kenya.
It doesn't have to be Either. But to use a Female to Advertise and then use a Male to "Drive it" is to Use the latter. Its like Prostituting her.

What is Worse? The corrupt Bilking KQ sooner than later or a Gikuyu piloting the Maiden? To me Bilking KQ is worse because a Gikuyu piloting it (to me) is of No consequence to those who know better (Except for a Woman "Koki" being used to Advertise the Maiden; and then Dumped).

Nb:A maiden Flight so famously Feminised (Koki and Crew) to begin with a few months ago; at the end so Masculined (Jowie and Crew). No Female pilot? Kenya hii?
