Anti-Drug Abuse Campaigner Arrested in Nairobi with Sh15 Million Heroine Stashed Inside Pawpaws

Police in Nairobi have arrested an anti-drug abuse campaigner with five kilograms of heroin worth more than 15 million shillings.
The man identified as Joseph Njau Ngendo has been arrested in Westlands, Nairobi shortly after returning to the country from a trip to Kampala, Uganda.
Police believe the suspect procured the narcotics in Uganda and concealed them inside pawpaws.
“Joseph Njau Ngendo was arrested within Westlands area on his return from Kampala, Uganda… he had left Nairobi on Wednesday night traveling by MASH bus,” reads a police report.
Police say Njau is part of a heroin distribution network in Nairobi and is suspected to have procured the narcotics from a Kampala-based Nigerian national.
“Police records indicate that Njau is a frequent traveler to Uganda. He has a pattern of leaving Kenya through Busia border and comes back to Kenya through Malaba border. He does this to evade detection."
“In early February 2019, Njau made two other trips to Uganda where he is suspected to have hammered a deal with his Nigerian drug associates.”
Authorities say Njau conceals his drug-dealing activities in legitimate business and charity work.
“When not dealing drugs Njau Ngendo works part-time as an anti-drug abuse campaigner. He regularly visits schools and social gatherings to give talks against drug abuse.”
He is set to be arraigned at the JKIA law courts on Monday, where he will be charged with possessing and trafficking narcotics.
