The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the operating license for the Kenyan bus company, Modern Coast.
This comes after two of the company’s buses collided at Salama area along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway on Thursday morning, killing seven people while 62 were wounded.
”The Authority has initiated a thorough investigation into the company’s safety standards and operations,” NTSA said in a statement on Thursday.
Modern Coast’s online portal was also shut down and its 88 buses grounded with the authority directing police to impound any of their vehicles found to be operating before the suspension is lifted. NTSA said the suspension was informed by the increase in cases of accidents involving the company’s buses.
On Wednesday, another Modern Coast bus was involved in a crash with a bus belonging to a rival company, Tahmeed in the same area.
