3 Suspected Terrorists Arrested for Trying to Forcibly Enter British Army Camp in Kenya

Police are holding four suspected terrorists who allegedly attempted to get unauthorized access into military installations in Kenya.

A Somali-Canadian man was arrested on Monday morning in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area after he was allegedly busted conducting surveillance at the Kenya Defense Force’s Moi Air Base. The suspect was handed over to anti-terror police for interrogation.

His arrest came hours after police nabbed three other terror suspects after they tried to gain forcible entry into the British Army Camp in Nanyuki, Laikipia County. Police said the suspects, who were captured by CCTV, unsuccessfully attempted to access the camp earlier on Sunday before leaving the scene.

They were later apprehended near Nanyuki Police Station by the area chief and two police officers at around 5 pm.

“Later in the day as the chief Nanyuki town and security officers were following up leads they found them near Nanyuki police station where they arrested them and called the OCS who acted immediately and booked in vide OB 35/5/1/2019,” reads a police report on the incident.

Kenyan authorities have beefed up security across the country following Sunday’s al-Shabaab attack on a joint US-Kenya military base in Manda Bay, Lamu County. Three American citizens, among them a soldier, were killed in the attack while two other people were wounded.

Somalia-based armed group, al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the 5.30 am raid that KDF says was immediately repulsed and five attackers killed.
