Matiang'i Demands Answers After Police Officer Allegedly Smashes Motorist's Vehicle [VIDEO]

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Sunday, May 10th, ordered a probe into an incident where a police officer allegedly smashed the windscreen of a motorist’s vehicle.

CS Matiang’i, through Twitter, directed Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai and Nairobi Regional Police Commander Philip Ndolo to furnish him with a report of the incident by 3 pm Sunday.

Matiang’i’s directive came after a video of the incident went viral on social media with Kenyans demanding the arrest of the officer in question.

In the video, the driver claims one of the police officers enforcing the dusk-to-dawn curfew broke his vehicle’s windscreen after flagging him down.

He adds that the officers harassed him despite being in possession of documents allowing him to operate past curfew hours.

He demands the officer who smashed his vehicle to accompany him to Riruta police station for an agreement on how to settle the damage but the officers dismiss him, saying they are not required by law to accompany him to the station and that they are busy.

“Haezi enda. Ako na kazi…Hakuna mahali anaenda,” a female officer says as she walks away together with her colleagues, leaving the driver at the scene.
