Police in Nairobi are holding a terror suspect who was found taking photos of Makongeni Police Station in Makadara, Nairobi on Monday.
34-year-old Augustine Juma, a Kenyan citizen, was arrested on the spot and his mobile phone confiscated.
Pictures of various police stations, an embassy, and other strategic government buildings in Nairobi were discovered upon perusal of his phone’s gallery.
Also found was a video clip of the suspect torturing another man in handcuffs, according to Nairobi County Regional police commander, Rashid Yakub.
Juma was later handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) for further interrogation and investigations.
Images of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, the Israeli Embassy in Nairobi, and several police stations in Nairobi were found in his phone.
"We don't know what his intentions are, but we will know more in the process of his interrogation," said Yakub.
Photos of Kenyan police officers in various training simulations, Kenyans killed by Al-Shabaab, and those of heavily armed suspected militants were also discovered.
Detectives are seeking to quiz his friends and relatives in a bid to understand his background and establish whether he spent time in neighboring Somalia.
Kenyan authorities say they have foiled several planned terror attacks by al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab militants in the country.
