The National Police Service has dismissed claims that Deputy President William Ruto’s security is under threat.
This is after a section of leaders allied to Ruto wrote to Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, raising concerns over the deputy president’s safety. They claimed that some security officers attached to Ruto are normally withdrawn during his events across the country, thus putting his life in danger.
The leaders further alleged that there was a gang deployed to cause chaos during Ruto’s rallies, citing incidents at Kenol, Murang'a county, and in Msambweni, Kwale county.
Police spokesperson Charles Owino has however denied the claims, explaining that the deputy president enjoys three levels of security 24 hours a day, including that of G-company, the Presidential Escort Service, and the elite Recce company.
"The G-company man all his residences around the country, the Presidential Escort Service, mostly in civilian (attire), takes care of his travel alongside the special Recce Company attached to the Deputy President," Owino clarified.
