The family of a 54-year-old Nairobi-based lawyer is in distress following his disappearance a week ago.
Benson Njau Kayai from Nairobi’s Kahawa West estate was allegedly kidnapped by unknown people along Muhoho Avenue in South C on the evening of February 7th, according to reports.
Investigations are ongoing after his family reported his disappearance at Akila Police Station in South C under OB 12/10/02/21-A7-1419HS on Tuesday.
Lang’ata OCPD Benjamin Mwanthi says that on the day Njau was allegedly kidnapped, a report of a car abandoned in the middle of the road along Muhoho Avenue was filed. Food essentials, including bread and milk, were found inside the said car.
It was not until the family reported him missing that police linked up the two reports. It emerged that the car Njau was driving when he was abducted was not his.
“His car is a Mercedes but he was not using it that day, he had a fielder which was KCC something…. But when I interview the guy, the owner of the fielder, he says that he has been giving him most of the weekends he uses it most of the time…,” Njau’s brother Nick Kayai said.
Njau’s 23-year-old son Ian says his father phoned him at around 5:00 pm seeking to know whether their family-run shop was okay. He promised to respond after doing a physical checkup but phone calls to his father went unanswered about an hour later.
Eyewitness accounts as narrated to police and family points to an abduction.
Njau has worked on many cases ranging from commercial law to corporate law, criminal law, family law, succession and property, conveyancing, and landlord and tenant law. It remains unclear whether his abduction is connected to a case he was handling or dealt with in the past.
Investigators say that his house in South C, where he lived alone, was found intact and nothing seemed out of place.
Hopefully this won't turn out to be another murder that goes unsolved.
INSECURITY in Kenya is one that needs to be addressed.
Instead of politicians thinking about what cow to milk, this should be on top of their agenda.
