Wife of Slain Nyeri Tycoon Erasmus Iguku to Face Murder Charges

Three suspects are set to be charged with the murder of renowned Nyeri millionaire businessman and philanthropist Erasmus Iguku Kinyua.

They include his wife Dorcas Wambui Iguku, prison warder Benson Musili and a third suspect identified as Simon Kariuki. This comes after a Nyeri court found that the three should be prosecuted over the murder of the 67-year-old businessman last month at Kangemi village in Nyeri.

The suspects appeared before Nyeri High Court Deputy Registrar Edina Angima on Monday but they did not take a plea as the judge is on vacation. The registrar deferred the plea-taking and ordered that the matter be handled by the High Court judge.

The three will remain in remand until February 1st when they will be arraigned to face murder charges.

Senior Principal Magistrate James Macharia on Monday set free three other suspects following the conclusion of investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Iguku, an electronics dealer who ran several shops within Nyeri town, was strangled to death on the night of December 19th.

Musili, a prison officer based at King’ong’o GK Prison, is the prime suspect in the murder and is believed to have masterminded the killing with the help of the deceased’s wife Wambui, 48.

The two were arrested on December 21st last year at the Kivaa area in Masinga, Machakos County after being on the run for two days. They were allegedly headed to an undisclosed location after committing the crime.
