Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana has urged opposition leader Raila Odinga to throw his support behind President William Ruto's reelection bid in 2027.
During a speech in Hola Town on Sunday, Mungatana commended Ruto's remarkable leadership abilities, specifically highlighting his efforts in campaigning for the role of AU Commission chairman. Mungatana acknowledges Ruto's loyalty towards Raila during the 2007 presidential campaign and his endorsement of the recent AU Commission chairman position. Mungatana implores the Azimio leader to reciprocate the support in 2027 and assist Ruto's re-election bid, stating, "In 2007, William Ruto supported you in your presidential bid, and now, 17 years later, in 2024, Ruto is instrumental in helping you secure the AU position. When the time comes in 2027, we urge you to also extend your support to President Ruto's reelection,"
The Senator's plea reaches further than just individual politics, highlighting the possible advantages for Kenya on a regional level. According to the Senator, UDA endorsing Raila Odinga as a 'genuine Pan-Africanist' emphasizes a vision for a politically united Kenya that could result in a more powerful and cohesive voice in African matters. Mungatana proposes that this united front could greatly strengthen Kenya's position and influence in the African Union, potentially speeding up development projects and cultivating stronger alliances in the region.
On Thursday, opposition leader Raila Odinga revealed his intentions to run for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission. This comes as the current chairman Moussa Faki of Chad nears the end of his tenure. In his announcement, Raila confidently stated that he is the ideal candidate for the position. His announcement coincided with the AU's Executive Council meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi is expected to rally support for Raila.
Also, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has given his backing to Raila. It's a requirement for any applicant eyeing the AU Commission chairmanship position to be nominated by a member state. As such, President Ruto's administration will be at the forefront of Raila's campaign trail. Assuming he wins the top spot, Raila will need to exit Kenya's political scene. This position requires the capacity to maintain impartiality when addressing political matters, conflicts, and advancements within African countries. Consequently, Raila would become a significant figure, wielding influence not only in Africa but also on a worldwide scale.

Mugatusi - Raila does not need Ruto to get any position in AU or anywhere else in this world. Please do not be a myopic fella deep in your cranium. Your brand of politics is very shallow and self serving at best. Ruto must go in 2027!
Ruto must 'go' Where??? Do you really know what you're talking about???
Nonsense Mugatana; nonsense!
