Joseph Mwenda, known professionally as DJ Joe Mfalme, has been released from custody in the ongoing murder investigation of Felix Kelian, a detective from Kabete Police Station.
Mfalme, along with five others, will now serve as a state witness for the prosecution. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has recommended that Allan Ochieng, a member of DJ Joe Mfalme's entourage also known as Hype Ballo, be charged with the murder. Mfalme will be released and provide testimony in the upcoming trial. Previously, Mfalme, his entourage, and several police officers from Kikuyu Police Station were all detained on suspicion of involvement in Kelian's death.
Following a 14-day investigation period, the ODPP determined there was insufficient evidence to implicate Mfalme and the other five individuals. Instead, they will be called upon to provide witness accounts during the trial. The case follows a traffic altercation in Kikuyu between DJ Joe Mfalme's entourage and the deceased officer, Felix Kelian. The situation reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, with some of the entourage members and Kikuyu police officers allegedly assaulting Kelian.
Family members of the deceased claim Kelian suffered from stomach complications and succumbed to his injuries shortly after being rushed to a nearby hospital. The focus of the investigation has now shifted towards Allan Ochieng, who will face murder charges on April 8 at Kiambu High Court. The renowned Kenyan entertainer DJ Joe Mfalme yesterday issued a heartfelt statement expressing profound gratitude to his supporters ahead of his impending arraignment in court today.
The statement by his management read, "Our thoughts and prayers are still with the family and friends of those affected by this tragedy. The past 14 days have been intense, but your messages of solidarity and visits have kept the team going. DJ Joe Mfalme and the team head back to Kibera Law Courts tomorrow, Monday 8th to hopefully hear the outcome of the investigations. Court starts at 9 a.m. We will provide an update once we are done with court tomorrow. Thank you for standing by the team."
