President William Ruto of Kenya has announced changes within the National Police Service (NPS).
The most notable development is the acceptance of Inspector General Japhet Koome's resignation, paving the way for a transition at the helm of the police force. In response to this vacancy, President Ruto has appointed Douglas Kanja as the acting Inspector General. Kanja, previously serving as the Deputy-Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service will oversee the NPS until a permanent replacement is confirmed through parliamentary approval. The reshuffling extends beyond the top position with President Ruto unveiling a series of key appointments across various law enforcement and correctional agencies.
"The Head of State has, in accordance with Section 16 of the National Police Service Act, designated Douglas Kanja, CBS the Deputy-Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service as the acting Inspector-General of the National Police Service," Ruto announced.
Patrick Mwiti Arandu has been named the new Commissioner General of Prisons taking over from Brigadier John Warioba who is concluding his service. Meanwhile, Noor Gabow has been reassigned to the Public Service. Further changes include the appointment of Eliud Langat and James Kamau as acting Deputy Inspectors General for the Kenya Police Service and the Administration Police Service, respectively. Ranson Lolmodooni and Gilbert Masengeli have assumed leadership roles within specialized units, with Lolmodooni heading the General Service Unit and Masengeli taking charge of the Administration Police Training College in Embakasi, Nairobi.
The President has also made appointments to crucial operational and training positions. William Yiampoy has been tasked with overseeing operations at the Police Headquarters, while Kainga Mathiu will lead the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong, Nairobi. President Ruto has expressed gratitude to the outgoing Inspector General Koome for his service to the nation. Douglas Kanja has built an impressive resume within the National Police Service, holding several high-profile roles and achieving remarkable accomplishments.
Prior to his current appointment, Kanja served as the Deputy Inspector-General where he played a crucial role in managing police operations and ensuring the efficient functioning of the force. Furthermore, he has also held the position of Commissioner at the National Police Service Commission, demonstrating his multifaceted expertise and dedication to the organization.

You seem to suggest that the appointment s should be made on tribal basis as opposed to merit. You are one on the list of people who blindly are going gz and the same time going tribal. Should the government drop a qualified individual on tribal grounds and select a non qualified individual just to fulfill your tribal status?
At least He didn't Go the Ogolla way.
Ni lazima Ndugu yetu Koome ashikwe mara moja na kupelekwa ICC, Hague ili ajibu maswali juu ya watu wengi ambao wameyapoteza maisha yao bila sababu maalum katika nchi ya Kenya.
