Peter Munya Exposes How Raila Sidestepped Azimio Principals

The Party of National Unity (PNU) leader Peter Munya has revealed significant divisions within the Azimio la Umoja coalition, stemming from actions taken by its leader Raila Odinga.

Peter Munya has voiced concerns over Odinga's unilateral decision to engage with the Kenya Kwanza government, a move that contradicts previous agreements made within the coalition. Speaking on Spice FM, Munya expresses discomfort with what he terma the "donation of ODM members to the Kenya Kwanza government." He emphasizes that this decision was made without consensus from coalition partners, despite earlier discussions where joining the government was deemed inadvisable. Munya argues that any collaboration with the government should be formalized through a legal framework, similar to the accord established with former President Mwai Kibaki.

The PNU leader clarifies that his party remains committed to the Azimio la Umoja coalition for now, following extensive deliberations by their National Executive Council. However, he suggests that if PNU were to leave, it would be more strategic to do so in conjunction with other coalition members to maintain a strong opposition stance. The coalition's unity has been further strained by Martha Karua's Narc Kenya departure from Azimio la Umoja. This move has heightened tensions within the alliance as other member parties express growing dissatisfaction with ODM's actions.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has also weighed in on the situation, emphasizing the need for the coalition to remain united in their efforts to address issues affecting Kenyans and combat what he describes as grand corruption within the Kenya Kwanza administration. The call for ODM's removal from the coalition has gained traction, with PNU, Jubilee, and DAP-K urging former President Uhuru Kenyatta, the coalition's chair, to convene an urgent meeting to discuss Azimio's future. These parties argue that ODM's recent collaboration with the government undermines the coalition's role as an effective opposition force.

DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa has noted that Raila Odinga's bid for the African Union Commission Chairmanship necessitates a review of the coalition's leadership structure. He stresses the importance of a formal meeting to address the current situation and warns that if ODM fails to clarify its political stance, other parties may consider leaving the coalition to forge a new path.
