Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi Slams Gachagua’s Call to Halt US Remittances as Economic Sabotage

Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has strongly criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for urging Kenyans in the United States to halt remittances to Kenya.
He accuses him of economic sabotage and undermining national unity. The censure follows remarks Gachagua made during his current diaspora tour in the US. Sudi released a video statement calling on Kenyans abroad to disregard Gachagua’s fundraising efforts, describing him as unpatriotic. He refutes Gachagua's assertion that President William Ruto's administration is led by individuals lacking adequate education, labelling such claims as misleading and hypocritical.
Sudi saysthat Gachagua previously sought his advice during a political crisis, including an impeachment attempt, yet now disparages his education. Gachagua's call for economic resistance specifically targeted the Mt Kenya diaspora, suggesting that withholding remittances would protest against the perceived marginalisation of the region by the Kenya Kwanza government.
He alleged that Mt Kenya’s economic contributions have been undervalued and the community holds financial influence to shape national policy. Sudi, a key ally of President Ruto, denounces these remarks as reckless and divisive, highlighting the vital role of diaspora remittances in supporting livelihoods and bolstering Kenya’s foreign exchange reserves.
“Telling Kenyans not to send money is like asking them to abandon their families,” Sudi declared, warning of potential economic destabilisation and increased political division.
