Public participation sessions regarding the potential impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have been marked by unrest, particularly in Nyeri County.
The proceedings, part of a nationwide initiative, were today temporarily halted due to vehement opposition from local residents. Demonstrations escalated as citizens lit bonfires and barricaded roads, necessitating intervention by security forces. The protesters express strong support for Gachagua, asserting that his fate is inextricably linked to that of President William Ruto, with whom he was jointly elected. They dismiss the impeachment efforts as politically motivated, urging the country's top leadership to address any internal disagreements privately.
Similar disruptions occurred in Kiambu County, where residents voiced concerns about the legitimacy of the public participation process. Some suggest that electronic voting might offer a more transparent alternative which is less susceptible to manipulation. The public participation exercise, which began on October 4 and is set to conclude on October 5, allows Kenyans to submit their views in accordance with Article 182 of the Constitution. Opinions can be shared online or at designated centers throughout the country. The impeachment motion against Gachagua was introduced in the National Assembly on October 1, garnering support from 291 members of Parliament.
The charges against the Deputy President are numerous including allegations of ethnic divisiveness, undermining the presidency, violating his oath of office, and contravening the National Cohesion and Integration Act. Additional accusations involve corruption, incitement, and misconduct. In response to a petition filed by Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina, the High Court in Kerugoya has mandated that the National Assembly organize additional public participation exercises in every constituency. Justice Richard Mwongo emphasizes the importance of genuine public engagement, stipulating that adequate notice must be provided for these hearings.
Gachagua had previously sought to halt the public participation forums, arguing for a more expansive process that would include all 290 constituencies, the diaspora, and the 1,450 electoral wards where presidential elections occur. However, the High Court declined to issue an interim order to stop the exercise, scheduling a hearing for October 9 to address the matter further.

Ruto MUST GO.
KUFA DEREVA KUFA MAKANGA!
Back to the ballot for Kenyans.
Back to the ballot 🗳
The best thing for the Government to do at this point is to cancel this referendum motion. And focus on healing and calming down the national politics, instead of aggravating the politics even further. This was an unforced error by the Ruto government. Very very very stupid move.
Kenya is at crossroads; It will either embrace corruption that has held it back since colonialism or it will remove the presence of people and institutions and embrace truth.
Truth will prevail; however for this to happen, all current institutions must fail and a new foundation must laid.
Very interesting times.
The sad thing is Kajwang was cheering when his goons were throwing chairs to our future president Morara Kebaso. They could have killed our son.
