A Mother's Anguish: Nakuru Woman Searches Tirelessly for Missing Baby

Maureen Gesare, a resident of Kwa Rhonda in Nakuru West Constituency, has been enduring every parent's worst nightmare as she desperately searches for her nine-month-old daughter, Kerubo, who was abducted by an unidentified woman last Tuesday.

The infant was taken while in the care of Ms. Gesare's older sister, a routine childcare arrangement that had never before given cause for concern. The suspected kidnapper employed a calculated approach, enticing four children who were with Kerubo by offering them sodas and chips. Ms. Gesare, who works as a casual laborer in Nakuru City, had taken care to prepare food items for her sister, Faith Kemunto, who was watching both Kerubo and her own three-month-old infant that day.

The sequence of events unfolded when neighborhood children, following their usual routine, asked to take Kerubo to a nearby charity home where they regularly received free meals. During their return journey, they met a woman claiming to be unfamiliar with the area and seeking directions. The woman, dressed in a blue dress and white shoes, was later captured on surveillance footage at a local supermarket purchasing tumblers to serve beverages to the children. She disappeared with Kerubo after treating the group to refreshments worth one hundred shillings.

In a particularly calculated move, the group had briefly stopped at Ms. Kemunto's gate where they dropped off her sleeping three-month-old before continuing with Kerubo, assuring they would return shortly. The devastated mother later learned that this was not the perpetrator's first appearance in the vicinity as she had been spotted at the charity home the previous day, inquiring about porridge sales.

"I just pray that she will be found. Sometimes I find myself awake through the night just thinking about where she is since I do not know whether she is okay," shares Ms.Gesare.

The case has prompted swift action from law enforcement with detectives from the Nakuru West Directorate of Criminal Investigations launching an investigation following a missing person's report filed at Rhonda Police Station. The local community has mobilized in support of the family, offering both practical assistance and emotional comfort during this challenging time.
