Missing Teen Found Murdered in Kiambaa Banana Plantation After Late-Night Phone Call

Detectives have initiated an investigation into the tragic death of Sharon Atieno, a 19-year-old woman discovered in a banana plantation in Kiambaa.

Atieno, also known as Nicole, was found deceased on Friday, November 8, 2024, after she had departed from her Thindigwa residence in Karuri the previous evening. According to accounts from her friends, Atieno left her home around 10 pm on Thursday to take a walk and make a phone call, leaving her roommate behind. Concerns arose when attempts to contact her later that night proved unsuccessful. The following day, her body was discovered in a banana plantation in Gachorwe village, Kiambaa, bearing signs of mutilation.

Kiambaa Subcounty Police Commander Pius Mwathi indicates that while no suspects have been apprehended, the investigation is actively progressing. An autopsy scheduled for Wednesday, November 13, 2024, is expected to provide crucial information about the cause of death to aid the ongoing investigation. Mwathi reports that detective teams are pursuing several leads in connection with this murder and that they anticipate making arrests soon. In a separate incident, law enforcement officials are also investigating the death of Gladys Jemuge in Kabarnet, Baringo County. Jemuge's body was discovered in Kuriondonin village, Kewamoi Sublocation, concealed in a thicket and partially covered with clothing.

The victim exhibited multiple injuries, including head trauma, abdominal bruising, and facial bleeding. Her remains have been transferred to Baringo County Referral Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination, with no arrests made thus far. In Kasarani, authorities have apprehended three suspects in connection with the murder of 78-year-old Catherine Waceke Kimotho, whose body was discovered in a septic tank at her residence. The primary suspect, a 21-year-old casual worker employed at the victim's home for one month, allegedly committed the crime on November 10 following a dispute over unpaid wages.

The suspect, who had initially fled the scene, was located and arrested in the Valley area of Kinoo, Kiambu County, where he had sought refuge with his cousin, who has also been taken into custody. A third suspect was apprehended after the victim's mobile phone was recovered from a repair shop in Githurai 44. The victim's body, found wrapped in a blanket, showed evidence of head trauma consistent with blunt force. All suspects are detained at Kasarani Police Station awaiting arraignment.

These cases contribute to a concerning pattern of homicides involving women across the region, though law enforcement officials emphasize that these murders represent criminal acts not specifically targeting any gender. Police maintain that such incidents typically involve premeditated actions or specific motivations by perpetrators.
