Authorities have confirmed the recovery of the body of Arafat Mohamed, a young man reported missing in the Eastleigh Section III area last week.
Mohamed disappeared on Friday, November 29, prompting his family to leverage social media in their search efforts. Initial reports from the victim’s cousin suggested that Mohamed's last known location was at a swimming pool in Kimathi. However, his aunt later disclosed that his body was found in the Bahati region. She recounts that prior to his disappearance, he had mentioned plans to attend the mosque but was subsequently picked up by an unidentified man.
"I learned from my boys, who were with him, that a man much bigger than them approached and took him away," the aunt states.
Despite their attempts to file a missing person's report on Saturday, the family was informed they had to wait 72 hours before doing so. Arafat Mohamed had recently moved to Nairobi from Mandera for the holiday season. His aunt notes that his body bore signs of violence, including bleeding from the ear and various cut marks, indicating that he may have been physically assaulted. The body has been transported to the City Mortuary as investigations continue into the incident.
This occurrence adds to a concerning trend of apparent homicides in the Eastleigh area, following recent events where three family members were murdered allegedly by the same suspect. In November, Hashim Dagane Muhumed was arrested in connection with those murders, which involved the deaths of a mother, her daughter, and her niece, whose bodies were discovered in different locations throughout the city. The suspect is currently being held as investigations into these and other related cases progress.
Eastleigh is becoming a dangerous place to live.
