Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening its relations with China.
The Prime CS emphasizes the importance of safeguarding the rights and interests of Chinese nationals residing in Kenya. This statement was made on Tuesday during a farewell dinner held in honour of Chinese Ambassador Zhou Pingjian, who is concluding his tenure in the country. Mudavadi, who also holds the position of Foreign and Diaspora Cabinet Secretary, acknowledges the substantial contributions of the Chinese community to Kenya's national development efforts. He assures that the Kenyan government would prioritize the safety of Chinese nationals and protect their investments.
"The Government will ensure the Chinese community, which has supported the attainment of national development priorities, is safe while securing their investments," Mudavadi said.
Highlighting the significance of the Kenya-China relationship, Mudavadi expresses optimism for the evolution of this partnership towards a comprehensive strategic alliance. He also expresses gratitude for China's support during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly its provision of medical supplies, which he describes as a demonstration of the enduring friendship between both nations.
Mudavadi further commends Ambassador Pingjian for his dedication to bolstering the Kenya-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He acknowledges the ambassador’s responsiveness to pressing issues of mutual interest, which has further strengthened bilateral ties.
“Kenya will miss you, but we are sure that you will join Kenya’s friends in Beijing and continue enhancing our mutual relationship,” he remarked.
In his remarks, Ambassador Pingjian reflected on the notable global changes and the ongoing necessity for peace and development. He reiterated China’s commitment to nurturing a community with a shared future for mankind and expressed hope for continued collaboration with Kenya to achieve mutual prosperity. Ambassador Pingjian also shared personal insights gained during his time in Kenya, noting meaningful advancements such as improved infrastructure, including the roads leading to Maasai Mara.
The farewell dinner served not only as a celebration of Ambassador Pingjian's achievements but also as a reaffirmation of the mutual dedication to enhancing the Kenya-China partnership. Meanwhile, Mudavadi has also announced that Kenya is set to strengthen trade and investment collaborations with Germany. Speaking at the 5th Germany-African Business Summit in Nairobi recently, Mudavadi highlighted potential areas for cooperation, including labour migration, climate resilience, education, and healthcare.
He emphasized the significance of the long-standing relationship between Kenya and Germany, which has fostered vital diplomatic engagements and facilitated investments in sectors such as renewable energy, automotive manufacturing, and infrastructure. Mudavadi noted that these partnerships not only create jobs but also enable technology and knowledge transfer essential for Kenya’s sustainable economic growth.
Instead of advocating about protecting foreigners, Mudavadi should be telling us where all the missing Kenyans involved in peaceful protests are!!
