TVET Colleges Prepare Students for Overseas Employment

The Kenyan government is intensifying its efforts to promote labour export through a new initiative aimed at equipping the youth with marketable skills.

This initiative is crucial in addressing the employment needs of a rapidly growing youthful population and securing job opportunities abroad.
During a recent recruitment drive at Mumbuni Technical Training College in Machakos, the college director emphasized the vital role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centres in producing a skilled workforce. These skills are increasingly in demand in developed countries.

"Technical Training Institutions are critical in producing highly skilled manpower necessary for driving global economies. Mumbuni Technical Training College is proud to be at the forefront of this initiative, training professionals to meet both domestic and international labour market demands," said the college director.

The focus of the recruitment effort was to facilitate job placements specifically in the Gulf region, with an emphasis on Dubai and the United Arab Emirates. The event underscores the collaborative efforts between TVET colleges and the government, as well as partnerships with industry stakeholders, to develop courses that meet current labour market trends.

Prominent in this initiative is Global Face Human Resources, a recruitment agency that collaborates with government and training institutions to connect skilled Kenyan workers with foreign employers. Representatives from Global Face were present at Mumbuni Technical Training College, conducting interviews with numerous candidates seeking employment in the Gulf.

Global Face Human Resources emphasizes transparency throughout the recruitment process, facilitating not only interviews and job placements but also guiding candidates in securing travel documents, work permits, and orientation for life abroad. This initiative aligns with the national jobs recruitment drive initiated by Labor Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua.

During the launch, Mutua assured Kenyans of the government’s commitment to facilitating overseas employment, highlighting a comprehensive plan for the swift processing of job placements for those recruited. The recruitment drive at Mumbuni Technical Training College represents a strategic effort to provide Kenyan youth with access to global job opportunities.

"It doesn’t matter whether you have a passport or not. As a government, we have developed an elaborate plan to ensure that Kenyans recruited for overseas jobs are processed with speed and efficiency," stated Mutua.

Kenya aims to cement its position as a source of skilled manpower in the international labour market by fostering collaborations among educational institutions, recruitment agencies such as Global Face Human Resources, and government bodies.
