The whereabouts of Yussuf Hussein Ahmed, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Dela Ward in Wajir County, have finally been resolved.
This is after he resurfaced in Nairobi and reunited with his family on Saturday night, ending a nearly six-month period of uncertainty following his disappearance on September 13, 2024. Local leaders, including Eldas Member of Parliament Adan Keynan and Wajir County Woman Representative Fatuma Abdi Jehow, have confirmed the news and shared their relief on social media.
Hussein's disappearance from Enterprise Road in Nairobi occurred amidst a series of abduction cases across Kenya, sparking public concern and prompting an investigation. Initial reports claiming the discovery of his body were later disproven by DNA testing, leaving his fate unknown.
A significant development arose when activist Bob Njagi, who was himself abducted in August 2024, stated in a February 5 interview that he encountered a man he identified as Hussein in a neighbouring cell on the night of the MCA’s disappearance. Njagi's account supported the claims that Hussein had been held against his will, although the circumstances of his captivity and subsequent release remain undisclosed.
Hussein’s reappearance has been met with cautious optimism, particularly for families of other missing persons in Kenya.
"The MCA for Wajir County was actually in the room next to where I was. I had the opportunity to peep through the keyhole and saw him on the night he was brought in Friday, September 13. I had been keeping dates since the day I was abducted and I realised someone had been brought in at night which was not normal," Njagi recalled.
