Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has publicly affirmed his unwavering support for President William Ruto, dismissing suggestions that he should challenge the President's leadership.
Speaking during a public address in Laikipia County, Kindiki stated his commitment to his constitutional role, emphasizing that his primary responsibility is to support the President and collaborate with the government to deliver on its promises to the Kenyan people. Kindiki revealed that he had been approached by unnamed individuals urging him to oppose President Ruto. However, he rejected these advances, reiterating his dedication to serving as a reliable deputy.
"My responsibility is to support the President, defend him, and collaborate with my colleagues to ensure the government's agenda is delivered effectively to the people of Kenya," Kindiki declared.
The Deputy President's remarks coincides with the commencement of a week-long tour of the Mt. Kenya region by President Ruto and himself, starting with engagements in Laikipia County. This visit follows a similar tour of Nairobi County. Kindiki also criticizes those he describes as lacking a constructive agenda for the nation, stating, "We will not waste time engaging in arguments or battles with those who cannot point to tangible contributions for the betterment of our country."
Kindiki has urged the Mt. Kenya community to prioritize national unity and avoid divisive politics as President William Ruto prepares for a regional tour. During the visit, Ruto is scheduled to launch, inspect, and commission various development projects, fulfilling pre-election promises aimed at bolstering regional development. Kindiki emphasizes that national unity is crucial for the nation's economic and social progress.
"National unity is a catalyst for economic and social transformation," he stated. "The people of Mt. Kenya are enterprising and can be found in all parts of the country. We must not allow selfish and parochial interests to isolate this region from the rest of Kenya."
He reassures the region of the government’s commitment to ensuring that its development is in tandem with that of the entire country. The Deputy President also cautions against focusing solely on regional concerns to the detriment of national progress. He notes that the Mt. Kenya community is spread across the country, with residents in areas such as Lodwar, Kisumu, and Lamu.
"It would be very wrong for us to speak about the issues affecting us alone while undermining other communities. Our nation thrives when we work together, recognizing that our interests are interconnected," Kindiki said.
