Pastor Robert Burale Sues Ex-Wife and Alex Mwakideu for KSh20 Million Over Defamation

Pastor Robert Burale has filed a defamation suit against his former wife Rozina Mwakideu and her brother, media personality Alex Mwakideu, over statements made during an interview published on YouTube.

In court documents filed at the Milimani Law Courts, Burale claims the interview, hosted on Alex Mwakideu’s channel, contained false and damaging remarks by Rozina, which were aired without moderation. He argues that the content has harmed his personal reputation, affected his ministerial work, and caused significant emotional distress.

Burale, a pastor and motivational speaker, is seeking KSh20 million in general damages. He has also requested the court to compel Alex Mwakideu to remove the video from all online platforms and to issue a public apology.

The case was certified urgent by Senior Principal Magistrate S.K. Onjoro, who directed that the respondents be served ahead of the scheduled hearing on 23 October. According to Burale’s legal team, the video’s circulation has led to reputational damage within his religious community and disrupted his pastoral duties due to a loss of trust among congregants and partners.

The suit further accuses Alex Mwakideu of breaching journalistic standards and violating provisions of the Media Council Act and the Constitution by failing to prevent the publication of defamatory content. Burale maintains that the allegations made by Rozina, whom he divorced over ten years ago, were not only misleading but also made with malicious intent.

In a brief statement, Alex Mwakideu said he had not yet been served with court papers but confirmed that his legal team is prepared to respond once the documents are formally received.
