Murang'a Woman Representative Sabina Chege's response to a Twitter user has attracted mixed reactions from Kenyan social media users.
Commenting on a Twitter post by Ms Chege, a user by the name Simon Maina asked her about Wazir Benson Chacha, the 25-year-old man accused of being behind a con game targeting MPs and top government officials using fake Mpesa accounts.
On Wednesday, Sabina posted a picture on Twitter showing her and other officials planting trees at a location in Murang'a.
"Murang’a goes green. Mashinani Maneno’s," the caption on the photo read.
However, Maina commented on her tweet asking if Chacha was among the individuals in the picture.
"Kau ni Chacha kehau kana ni maitho ndiraira? Maina commented in Kikuyu, which translates to (Is that Chacha I see in that photo or are my eyes deceiving me?).
Replying in in Kikuyu Ms Chege said, "Uria nyukwa" (Ask your mother).
This elicited reaction among the platform's user, with some accusing the MP of using derogatory language.
@mugo_m said: "Mhesh.. I can't believe you can be that derogatory...esp with a fellow woman. Could you NOT refrain yourself? SAD."
@kot noted: "Why sad? What did you expect the @SABINACHEGE's response to be, sincerely? She's actually too kind."
@mkabuthia77: "If you rattle a snake, expect to be bitten. Choices have consequences. This tweet was meant to degrade madam Sabina. She has every right to get angry. She's human, I think that was a perfect answer."
@stevomuiruri commented: "Hard tackle right there."
@onlyaterics said: "A very sad comment especially coming from a woman !! Best way to handle it would be to ignore it but you have brought yourself down to the same level as your tormenters . Remember that the internet never forgets. This tweet will come to haunt you one day."
@simonmaina962 noted: "Stop embarrassing my County. Why can't you keep quiet. Do you ever see @UKenyatta and @WilliamsRuto responding to everyone?"
@kungukeige said : "Weak people revenge, Strong people forgive but intelligent people ignore. just ignore Sabina."
@oleMuyai: "Sabina anaongea vibaya, first she likes planting trees and watering them, second she doesn't like any question concerning strange men. Why abuse somebody's mother? She learnt this language from Demathew or what."
Sabina has denied ever having any relationship with the conman, but Chacha inna video that surfaced on Wednesday claimed that Ms Chege was fixing him.
Wanjiru never abused Maina. It was also ok for Maina to enquire about Chacha's presence. The name NYUKUA means your/my mother and many people think it's an abuse or rude to tell someone about NYUKUA.It is mostly used by elders like your father, his agemates etc to describe a person if he does something wrong. My father used to tell me UHANA NYUKUA GUKIGA, yaani you are a fool like your mother which is true because i can never be like his mother. Most men believe their wives are their property and accepted them due to their stupidity. But the truth is WEE UHANA NYUKUA. Ask Wanjiru.
