A typical man bites dog situation played out in Lucuiti village Igembe North, Meru County on Friday after a cow killed a lion that had been terrorizing residents for weeks.
The cow had been tied to a tree when she saw the lion approaching and attempted to run for her life. It was then that a rope which had been used to tether her trapped the big cat, strangling it to death.
Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers from the Meru National Park confirmed that the 'king of the jungle' died as a result of strangulation.
“It is a bizarre incident which we are still pursuing. The reports from the members of the public indicate that the lion died out of strangulation after the cow it had attacked and which was tethered by a rope strangely fixed on the lion,” a police officer told the Standard.
“The officers visited the scene and confirmed that indeed no gunshot of cut wounds were on the lion. However we are still investigating the incident, the lion carcass has been taken by the officers from KWS,” the officer attached at Kabache police post added.
Luciuti Location chief Daniel Kobia said the lion had mauled several domestic animals including goats and cows before it met its death.

..... I have tested that praying good for bad people is more powerful that wishing the bad... In mathematics -ve 1 multiplied by another -ve 1 gives a positive 1. ... Let us wish the tomenrors of the ordinary Kenyans well in their pursuit of gratifying their greed. Have a well meaning day...
At the Beginning I was saying what? How? But I now get it. Lol!!!
Animal rights activists are not happy about the bizarre incident. Now it appears that tethering domestic animals could endanger wild animals.
Another incident like this and the animal right activists will be forced to take legal action. Right now they are inconsultation with their environmentalists to find away for lions to only go after wild animals and leave domesticated ones to mankind.Simply put separate the two"antagonists".
We need to breed this cow. It has been able to accomplish what a battalion of KWS soldiers have been unable to for the past two months. Go Cow!!!. KWS need to be abolished The fat ass KWS soldiers have been completely defeated by Tsavo poachers
That cow is a hero. It should join the buffalos in the national parks that attack and kill lions.
At this rate Lions need to call an emergency meeting to find a way forward! What if the Zebras, Wildebeests and buffaloes hear this and follow a similar course? Just one Cow taking care of the King of the jungle!
@Nicholas M. The only way forward is to start eating grass.Dont know if its true, but,I have heard that Simba akikosa nyama hula majani.(When alion lacks meat, it eats grass) Just in case you are not a swahili speaking person.
The lion finally met its Karma after terrorizing other animals. You wonder where KWS was all this time when residents and animals lived in fear. It goes to show there is always hope especially to those living in dire straits without anyone to help. Fuel prices up more than 10% to raise money so the thieves can continue eating and carrying their looted millions in sacks of cash to buy goats to eat. Karma will soon be coming your way.
