MP Gideon Mulyungi to Pay His Wife, NTV News Anchor Doreen Gatwiri, Sh3 Million for Battering Her

NTV news presenter Doreen Gatwiri Majala is set to receive Sh3 million from her estranged husband, Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi for assaulting her.

This comes after MP Mulyungi and Ms. Doreen agreed to settle an assault case she had filed against him out of court.

The Standard reported that the first time MP, through his lawyer Erick Masese, offered to make a one-off payment of Sh3 million to Ms. Doreen to avoid a jail term should he be convicted of assault.

A person found guilty of assault serves a jail sentence of up to two years, which would automatically remove MP Mulyungi from his seat as stated in the Constitution.

Ms. Doreen, through her lawyer Cliff Ombetta, reportedly agreed to drop the case once the MP makes the compensation.

However, the divorce case in which the news anchor describes MP Mulyungi as "a man with unforgivable temper" will proceed.

Mulyungi is accused of battering Ms. Majala on the night of February 25th, 2018, at their home in Nairobi’s Karen estate.

“Writing this with a lot of fear. My life is in danger. This evening at about 9.50pm, my husband, Mwingi Central Member of Parliament, Gideon Mulyungi, assaulted me at our Karen home and I sustained head injuries at the back of my ear, resulting to my left ear going numb,” Ms. Majala tweeted on that day.

Majala, who said her husband locked her in the bedroom after the incident, noted that it was not the first time the MP beat her up.
