Kenyans Thrilled as Kenyan Flag is Projected on the Iconic Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai

Kenyans were thrilled after a video and photos of the Kenyan flag projected on the iconic Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai emerged on social media.

The Burj Khalifa, which is the tallest skyscraper in the world, lit up in Kenya’s national flag’s colors: red, green, white and black for three minutes as the country marked 56th Jamhuri Day on Thursday.

It costs AED250,000 (Ksh.6.9 million) for a three-minute promotional advert or message to be displayed on the iconic tower on a normal day, according to Arab Business, quoting the marketing agency which manages the lighting displays.

Kenyans online wondered whether the government spent the amount to have the colors of the national flag displayed on Burj Khalifa but Brand Kenya indicated this was done for free. Brand Kenya is a State body tasked with the responsibility of identifying and refining the key attributes of Kenya that contribute positively to the image and reputation of the nation.

“Well that’s the power of a good brand and Kenya is indeed a good brand. Chema chajiuza… Thank you,” Brand Kenya said in response to questions on how much was spent.

“Swahili is our national language but let’s translate ‘Chema chajiuza…’ (a good brand like KENYA sells itself) that’s your answer right there,” it added.
