70-year-old Man Circumcised After Death in Kiambu

A 70-year-old man from Gatundu, Kiambu County has been circumcised following his death.

K24 Digital reported that the man whose identity was concealed was circumcised at the Gatundu Hospital mortuary after it emerged that he was uncut despite being a respected elder.

The discovery was revealed by morgue attendants when his fellow elders went to collect his body for burial. Elders were forced to perform the rite at the funeral parlor before taking the deceased’s body for burial.

Speaking to the news outlet on condition of anonymity, elders said they could not understand how the deceased skipped such a crucial rite of passage when he was young.

“We could not bury him like that as it is against our practice,” one of the elders said.

They disclosed that the septuagenarian had gone through all the required stages before being accepted into the council of elders.

“He has even brought two goats to the council for him to be admitted at the council but this has come as a surprise for all of us,” the elders said.

The elders are also set to perform a cleansing ritual after the burial as it is taboo for an elder not to undergo the cut.

“This should serve as a wake-up call for elders as we have to find a way of checking that those who want to join have undergone this rite of passage,” another elder said.

The fact remains that he was a council of elders!

The mortuary attendance have no right to disclose such findings to outsiders without the family’s consent! The elder had all his inherent rights to remain uncut! Period! What good will it do him or elders after death?

God was happy as it was a covenant.

Wasn't Abraham married to his half sister on his father's side? Didn't Abraham have slaves? In fact didn't be bang his slave and when his sister wanted him to have a child and didn't that same sister ask him to throw out the child so he wouldn't play with hers? Wasn't that same "God" quite OK with slavery and on those grounds are you OK with it and should we continue to practice it? Here's the thing, you'll probably say I'm applying modern standards to old ways but you really are doing the same thing. Why should we pay any heed to instructions from a religion that condones these things?

Exactly@ Imara Daima.People,or should I say, fellow Kenyans, please question some of these retrogressive customs. If you are not going to sleep well because adead elder is uncircumcized, the problem is with you.Just ask your self, what is the big deal?
Its well and good to preserve one's culture, but not this kind.

@Maxiley, the man carried this heavy load for 70 years. That is a big burden-and the wife didn't say shit! She must have felt some unusual rubbing and throbbing- just saying. Did he have sons? What a mess?

Whatever difference removing a piece of foreskin makes! This man performed all his duties with his foreskin on, but petrified humans have to perform a rite to alleviate their fears. Watu!

Genesis 17:19-14; God tells Abraham, "this is my COVENANT ---every male among you shall be circumcised,--- for God commands that, "any uncircumcised male shall be cut off from his people, he has broken my COVENANT. Abraham and his entire household obeyed. It is worthy noting that the many African nations who practice male circumcision did so thousands of years before they ever so a bible or hear about this God's covenant to His people in the book of Genesis. Was this a coincidence?

@ Mwororo, it is said that Christianity is about 2,000 years old. Think about it. Man as we know him to day, the homosapien man has been in existence for more than 200,000 years. Man developed sacred traditions, and religion in attempt to answer the natural mysteries.Which in today's world SCIENCE is doing to alarger extent.Of course spiritual matters do not lent themselves to science very well, thus its just about what any man wants to call spiritual. As you can see, its not a real gigantic stretch to imagine the bible borrowing circumcision from some human tradition.Probably a tradition from one of the african tribes.

mungu wa Wayahudi ni mbaguzi. Anapatikana kwenye kitabu cha imani ya Wayahudi ambacho kinaitwa bibilia. Kama huniamini, soma Leviticus 25: 44-46.

So it’s okay to perform a pathology or post mortem exam which involves mutilation on a human cadaver but not a cultural rite post Mortem? I see no big deal here. Let the elders do their number. At least they will remember the late elder as an initiate.
Ethnocentrism is a normal behavior which makes people quick to judge others of a different culture.

@Jasiri, very good reasoning. Everyone need to respect each other's culture. By now everyone should know unless they claim they can magically become the other person, they have no basis to criticize another culture and no culture is perfect. Culture is only perfect to those who practice it and those who believe in it. Each person should promote their own. Let the best man win.
We are living in times where everyone will live to their truth, their cultire and who they are.
Anyone who tries to be who they are not will be condemned!!
Time for revelation and restoration!!

B4 joining council of elders from now a prospect must send a selfie or penfie.
Elders right on this. Senior bachelors upon death get buried outside the compound with disrespect to match their solitude in life.
