Pakistani Man in Theft Case Leaves Court in Stitches After Questioning Why MP Babu Owino is a Freeman

A Pakistani man left a Nairobi court in stitches on Friday after he questioned why the prosecution was opposed to his release on bond.

Muhammad Adnan Tahir, who is charged with stealing goods worth Sh10 million, told Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate R.K Ondieki that the move by the prosecution was unfair given that Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who was charged with attempted murder, is a freeman.

“Sir, why is the prosecution objecting to my release on bail? This guy Babu Owino shot someone in the neck and he is still walking,” Tahir lamented.

Babu, who was accused of shooting and injuring Felix Orinda alias DJ Evolve in January 2020, was released on Sh10 million bail. In December last year, he was declared a freeman after Orinda applied to withdraw the charges.

Tahir wants to be granted bail pending the hearing and determination of his case. He is accused of illegally obtaining 2,165 bags of diapers valued at Sh4.8 million, and 1,900 pieces of water dispensers and stands worth Sh5.5 million from New Be Company.

Tahir is alleged to have committed the offenses on diverse dates in March 2018 at New Be Company Limited in Embakasi, Nairobi while serving as director of ASQAM Merchandising Company Ltd.

The prosecution argued that he holds three passports, making him a flight risk, but the accused pleaded for leniency, saying he is married to a Kenyan, hence not a flight risk.

The court will deliver a ruling on the matter on February 22nd.

A Congolese was caught trafficking heroine through Islamabad and was forced to convert to Islam before being stoned to death. Maybe Tahir should face forced conversion to Mukorino before being condemned to King'ong'o.
