Nairobi’s Jevanjee, Bachelors Estates to be Demolished to Pave Way for 3,000 Affordable Houses

Old houses at Jevanjee and Bachelors estates in Nairobi are set to be demolished to give room for the setting up of 3,000 housing units in the next two years.

The current 80 tenants in the two estates will be given Sh600,000 each to seek alternative accommodation during the construction of the modern houses, according to Business Daily.

The Nairobi County government said the existing tenants will get the payment next week when partnership agreements will be signed, including a tenant purchase agreement for the new apartments.

The tenants will be given priority during the issuance of the new units where each will receive a three-bed-roomed house worth Sh3million repayable in the next 30years.

“The partnership deals guarantee that each tenant will get priority when the new houses are allocated to new tenants where each will pay a negotiated Sh8,000 monthly rent within the next 30 years.”

“We will proceed with the due process of issuing a 30-day vacation notice to the tenants to allow the contractors to launch construction soon,” said Nairobi Finance executive Pauline Kahiga

The county government indicated that the project was in line with the national government’s agenda of achieving affordable housing.
